Church of San Pietro

Embedded in the urban fabric as a silent guardian of collective memories, the Church of San Pietro represents an emblematic example of historical and spiritual layering. Deeply marked by the bombings of the 1940s and subsequently rebuilt in 1972, the building has gone through eras and transformations while maintaining intact its symbolic and liturgical function.
The recent intervention aimed at the integral regeneration of the structure, preserving its historical-artistic value through a calibrated process of architectural, structural, and material restoration. The first phase involved the consolidation of the pediment of the main façade, followed by the complete reconstruction of the wooden roof, designed to respect the original composition through traditional construction techniques and certified materials.
The chromatic research on the internal plasters, developed through sampling and stratigraphic analysis, made it possible to restore to the surfaces the vibrant tonal depth that characterized previous eras. The project also included targeted interventions on the decorative apparatus, enhancing the gilded friezes, cornices, and wall paintings that enrich the side chapels.
One of the most significant elements of the intervention is the lighting study: a calibrated and orientable lighting system, capable of delicately highlighting the works of art, altars, and naves, creating a balance between functional light and spiritual suggestion. The lighting thus becomes a narrative tool, able to accompany the liturgy and intensify the experience of the sacred space.
To complete the intervention, the sanding and polishing of the original floors returned to the church its material and authentic charm, contributing to the restoration of the visual and tactile continuity of the interior environment.
The Church of San Pietro today presents itself as a deeply renewed place of worship: sober, elegant, rooted in tradition but capable of dialoguing with the present through a respectful and contemporary architectural language. A restoration that restores identity, beauty, and function to a space full of meaning for the community.
